The Tells of the Unexpected
Tue 17th - Fri 20th June – 25 Frederick Street
‘The Foley Detectives’
Definition of Foley – ‘The art of recreating incidental sound effects, such as footsteps or rustling clothes, in sync with the picture.
Dan Auluk and Nita Walters are currently in their second year studying for a BA in Visual Arts by Negotiated Studies at Birmingham City University’s School Of Art at the Bournville Campus.
Dan’s current preoccupation lies in exploring narrative structures within films and using them as cinematic ready-mades to create new works questioning the familiar.
Nita is currently more preoccupied with memory, time, space and the uncanny within sculptural, video and photographic process.
Their collaborative name is ‘The Tells Of The Unexpected’ which is based upon participatory interactive installations, looking at the human psyche.
‘Tells Of The Unexpected’ are enjoying a second consecutive student collaboration with New Generations Arts and are inviting you to experience the new installation works, focusing on the role of the Foley artist.
They aim to explore the slippage in time and production, questioning whether restrictions in technology reduces the quality of film or enriches it. With new technologies dictating our everyday lives with continual advancements, is the role of a Foley artist to become redundant and its characters reduced to Avatars?
